With the construction of the Daimler Benz factory in 1936, Ludwigsfelde began to write industrial history in the field of transport technology. Today, Ludwigsfelde is a modern city with an above average developed commercial and industrial structure and infrastructure. The company structure is multi-layered; it is characterized by large international companies as well as small and medium-sized businesses in the service or trade industry and a very solid base of craftspersons.

Consisting of the city center with approx. 20,000 residents and 11 city districts with approx. 4,275 residents, Ludwigsfelde spans a total area of approximately 110 km². The three industrial parks offer approx. 720 ha for production, trade and industry.
